AUR package
PlannedDGgdarko10 October 2026
Summary
Install Snim on Arch Linux and Arch-based distributions straight from the AUR, with the helper you already use, and update it along with the rest of your system. Until then, Arch users can install the Flatpak or use the install script.
What you will be able to do
- Install the ready-built package with your AUR helper, for example
yay -S snim-binorparu -S snim-bin, on x86_64 and aarch64. - Or build Snim from source with the
snimpackage, against Arch's own Qt 6 and libraries. - Get every new Snim release through your normal system update.
- Start Snim from the app menu or with
snimin a terminal. - Get instant, dialog-free screenshots on KDE Plasma right after installing, with no extra setup.
How it works
snim-binrepackages the official release tarball, checked against the release's checksums, into/opt/snimwith asnimcommand, a menu entry and icons, just like the.deband.rpm.- Its menu entry is the one KWin trusts, which is what gives KDE Plasma its instant screenshots.
- Recording uses Arch's own GStreamer and PipeWire, which the packages pull in. The x264 encoder is optional; without it Snim uses your graphics card's encoder or OpenH264.
- Both packages are updated for every Snim release.
Platforms
- Windows: Not affected.
- macOS: Not affected.
- Linux: Arch Linux and Arch-based distributions, on Wayland and X11. Screenshots and recordings behave as with the other Linux packages, including instant screenshots on KDE Plasma.
Not in this version
- Not in Arch's official repositories, only in the AUR.
- No development package that follows every change on the main branch.
Status
-
snim-bin, built from the release tarballs -
snim, built from source - Both packages updated with every release
- Arch instructions on the download page
