Screen color picker
PlannedDGgdarko1 November 2026
Summary
Pick the color of any pixel on screen and copy its hex code, without opening another tool.
What you will be able to do
- Start Pick Color from the tray menu or a global hotkey of your choice.
- Aim with the magnifier, which already shows the hex value under the cursor, and click to copy it as
#RRGGBB. - Nudge the cursor one pixel at a time with the arrow keys, press Enter to pick or Esc to cancel.
How it works
- The screen freezes like an area capture, but without a selection rectangle.
- The color is read from the captured screen at full resolution, so it is exact on HiDPI displays and on every monitor.
- A notification confirms the copied value, and Esc leaves the clipboard untouched.
Platforms
- Windows: Supported.
- macOS: Supported.
- Linux: Supported on X11 and Wayland.
Not in this version
- Hex only: no RGB, HSL or
rgba()formats. - No color history or saved palettes.
- No averaging over an area.
- No picking colors inside the annotation editor.
Status
- Pick Color in the tray menu and as a configurable hotkey
- A click copies the exact
#RRGGBBvalue to the clipboard - Verified on 1x and 2x displays and on a secondary monitor
- Windows, macOS and Linux (X11 and Wayland)
