Webcam bubble in recordings
ShippedDGgdarko4 August 2026
Summary
Put yourself in the corner of a screen recording: a round, live webcam bubble that is recorded along with your screen. Handy for walkthroughs, demos and bug reports, where a face and a voice explain more than a cursor.
What you can do
- Turn the bubble on with the camera button on the recording options bar, and pick a camera from the small menu next to it.
- See the bubble while you select the area: it waits in the bottom-left corner of your selection.
- Drag the bubble anywhere, and resize it from its bottom-right edge.
- Combine it with your microphone, system audio, pause and resume, and trimming.
- Count on Snim to remember whether the camera was on and which one you picked.
How it works
- The bubble is a small always-on-top window showing a mirrored, selfie-style view, and area recordings capture it like anything else on screen.
- On Windows and macOS, Snim keeps its other controls out of the recording but leaves the bubble in.
- If camera access is denied or no camera is found, the bubble says so instead of staying black, and the recording still goes ahead.
Platforms
- Windows: Supported.
- macOS: Supported. macOS asks for Camera permission the first time.
- Linux: Supported on Wayland and X11, including the Flatpak. On KDE Plasma, Sway, Hyprland and other desktops with layer-shell, the bubble floats above everything and lands in the corner of your selection. On GNOME, the desktop decides where it first appears; drag it to move it.
Not in this version
- Window recordings capture just the window, so the bubble is left out of them.
- Round only: no other shapes, borders or background effects.
- The bubble is recorded live; it cannot be added or moved afterwards in the trim editor.
Status
- Shipped in 1.0.0-rc.1
